Although I’m a fan of Scrum, Jeff Sutherland’s book is a bit of a chore to read.
There are some real gems in it, but you have to dig through a lot of fluff to find them. He probably recognised that hence putting the simplified steps in the Appendix.
If you want a simple overview of how to execute Scrum, just head to the Appendix and you’ll find what you’re looking for there. But if you really want to read all Jeff’s “war” stories about his experiences in various scenarios as he developed Scrum then be my guest and read the entire book.
It’s still worth the read because you get a better sense of the rationale behind some of the ideas, but I honestly wish he had written a more concise version that doesn’t tell a thousand stories to make one point.
